Job Overview
The Counter Poaching Unit (CPU) Coordinator based in Maputo National Park (MNAP) will directly coordinate MNAP’s counter poaching and security related operations. The CPU is designed to assist and support the national parks established counter poaching and security related operations, along with the Protection Coordinator and Regional Rangers.
Role Accountabilities
- Manage and coordinate MNAP counter poaching & security related operations;
- Manage Stakeholder engagement;
- Manage and control MNAP CPU assets and equipment;
- Management & control of CPU storeroom and Operations Room;
- Day to day liaising with MNAP Project Manager and management team.
Role Requirements
- 5 years’ experience in similar environment with previous counter poaching and security related positions;
- Good administration and financial skills;
- Results driven;
- Developing & maintaining good stakeholder relationships is essential;
- Skills in bushcraft field interpretation and incident management;
- Self-driven with strong leadership and performance management skills;
- Ability and willingness to live remotely;
- Fit and healthy to perform in-field Field Ranger training & support duties;
- A working knowledge or willingness to learn Portuguese will be an advantage.
Coordinate day-to-day activities of MNAP security operations
- • Directly coordinate with MNAP Protection Coordinator;
- Implement bi-monthly region ranger meetings;
- Determine current threat and implement strategy;
- Command and control live follow ups;
- Coordinate Field Ranger tasks with MNAP Protection Coordinator & Regional Rangers;
- Plan and coordinate movement and logistics of teams;
- Helicopter and fixed wing deployment.
Operational and process effectiveness
Management of operational initiatives to ensure effectiveness is achieved
1. Overall control of operation room:
- Ensure Operations are monitored and controlled through the control room.
2. Financial:
- Oversee cost effective implementation of operations.
- Support Procurement and Finance Administrator’s financial role:
- Budgets
- Cash flow
- FRs incentives
3. Oversight of internal quality assurance:
- All FR patrols
- Firearm handling
- Radio usage and allocation
- K9 operations
- Access & Movement control
- Incident Investigation and Prosecutions
4. Responsible for all project reporting:
- Monthly reports
- Statistics
- Training programmes
Stakeholder management
- Develop constructive relationships with all stakeholders to deliver short and long-term requirements.
- Develop and oversee appropriate Induction Programmes
Liaise with:
- MNAP Park Warden
- MNAP Protection Coordinator
- MNAP PPF Project Manager
- MNAP management team at HQ
- PPF CPU Manager
- PPF Senior Project Coordinator
