Security Manager



The Aga Khan Academy is hiring a Security Manager.

The position

Primary Purpose of the role

The Security Manager will provide dedicated commitment to safety, security and risk management for the Aga Khan Academy in Mozambique (AKA,M).  The manager will develop risk-based policies, strategy, standards and procedures, in line with wider AKA,M/AKDN policy, and develop / mentor those responsible for security in the implementation of that policy.  A strategic security perspective will be maintained through links with local organizations and official departments, in order to inform appropriate safety and security measures with AKA,M.    The Security Manager will supervise, coordinate and inspect the safety and security process, through the AKA,M management chain, and in support of the Head of Academy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a structured risk analysis process.  Risk assessments will be regularly updated with a suitable cross-functional group;
  • Develop and maintain a safety and security management system, in line with AKA,M/AKDN policy, offering direction on safety and security policy, strategy, standards and procedures;
  • Oversee and assist with the implementation of the AKAM safety and security management system including a structured audit process;
  • Where necessary, develop the capacity of AKA,M personnel who have security responsibilities;
  • Develop and maintain an Emergency Response Procedure (ERP) for emergency situations; emergency preparedness exercises must form part of the ERP;
  • In the event of a crisis, assist with the management of such an event, either directly or remotely;
  • Develop and maintain a communications system that is robust enough to ensure reliable communications to required services and personnel in an emergency;
  • Ensure the statutory standards in fire and first aid preparedness are met and provision for fire and 1st Aid training is made where applicable;
  • Advise on the selection of security service companies (guards / technical security / response) and manage such contracts to ensure the operational requirement stated by AKA,M is properly met;
  • Develop and maintain effective links with Community Risk Management Committees, local organizations, and official bodies like police and other government departments (including Embassies where appropriate);
  • From a variety of sources, including personal networks, gather and analyse security and safety information relevant to AKA,M and utilize that information to the benefit of the organisation;
  • Advise on and ensure that AKA,M is fully compliant with all government statutory security regulations and requirements;
  • Produce reports, attend meetings and undertake any other duties, in line with the position, as required by the Head of Academy.

The requirements

Experience

  • Minimum of seven years’ experience in a security and safety management role;
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a security and safety senior management role;
  • Proven competence in developing and maintaining security management systems;
  • Proven experience in conducting risk assessments and maintaining a risk register;
  • Proven experience in security management for a large organisation;
  • Proven experience in ERP development and crisis management;
  • Proven experience in conducting security audits and reviews;
  • Experience in training and capacity development;
  • Experience of security management at schools is desirable.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in security management or similarly related field is desirable;
  • An alternative professional qualification in security management is desirable (e.g. CSMP level 6 / ASIS PSP);
  • Individuals with relevant experience, as above, will be considered;
