Malaria Consortium is recruiting for a Technical Specialist to join our team in Nampula.
Job purpose
The Technical Specialist will have overall responsibility for the technical quality of SMC implementation during the SMC pilot project in Nampula province, across all intervention components: planning and enumeration; community engagement; training; SMC medicine administration; supervision, monitoring, and evaluation.
Scope of work
The role will lead on developing and refining SMC intervention tools and materials, including adapting and contextualising those used elsewhere in Malaria Consortium’s SMC programme. It will actively participate in SMC implementation activities, providing guidance and quality assurance to SMC stakeholders and implementers. The role will also support research activities, those relating to the documentation and evaluation of the SMC implementation process.
Key working relationships
The role will liaise closely with the Project Manager SMC and Research Coordinator SMC, both based in Malaria Consortium’s Nampula office. It will also work closely with Malaria Consortium’s Mozambique country team, the East & Southern Africa regional team, and the global SMC programme team. Key internal working relationships include the Mozambique Country Director; Head of Monitoring, Evaluation and Surveillance; Head of Technical East & Southern Africa; Research Advisor; and SMC Programme Director. Externally, the role will work with malaria and community health stakeholders, those at province- and district-level health authorities in Nampula and the intervention districts.
Person specification
Qualifications and experience:
- Master’s degree in international health, international development or relevant discipline;
- Extensive work experience as a technical specialist in health-related projects;
- Experience in public health project design and implementation, including the development of intervention processes, tools and materials;
- Experience of supporting the field implementation of health-related projects;
- Experience of working closely with province- and district-level health authorities;
- Excellent understanding of public health and community-based healthcare;
- Familiarity with the health system in Mozambique;
- Ability to create functional work relationships at a distance and to relate to people across locations, functions and levels of seniority;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- Attention to detail;
- Fluency in Portuguese and English.
