The Aga Khan Academy Maputo is seeking a Admissions and Communications Assistant.

Purpose

  • Assist in the admissions process for new parents and students.
  • To liaison between The Academy and its parent/families, facilitating communication and providing advice and guidance as required.
  • Manage the promotions and communications efforts of the Academy to the local and wider community.

Context

The Aga Khan Academies form an integrated network of residential schools under development in Africa, South and Central Asia, and the Middle East with the mission of educating future leaders in their respective countries. The Academies will give young people of exceptional promise an international standard of education from early years to secondary level, regardless of the ability of their families to pay. The three programmes of the International Baccalaureate (IB) will provide an academically rigorous context for the development of the leadership abilities of students. Academies will feature spacious campuses and excellent educational resources, providing rich opportunities for teachers and school leaders to grow professionally while contributing to an important purpose.

The Aga Khan Academy, Maputo, is the third operating Academy in the network. As a member of the admissions and communications team, the admissions and communications assistant works with the Dean of Admissions well as other colleagues to achieve the goals of the Aga Khan Academy in Maputo and to support the vision and mission of the Academies network as a whole.

Primary Responsibilities

Student Admissions

  • Assist the Dean of Admissions in the recruitment and selection of students, from Mozambique and particularly from remote areas within Mozambique. Also to be a strong support to recruit students from outside of Mozambique.

Parent and family liaison

  • Work closely with parents and families to provide all information about the academy and to communicate the mission and values of the Academy and to ensure parent and student satisfaction is very high.

Data management

  • Record keeping and data management of all students enrolled and withdrawn including data management of residential students (visa renewals and interaction with immigration and government officious).

Promotion and communications

  • Lead the promotion and communications efforts to ensure the Academy’s mission is well-understood by parents and other important stakeholders. Creating content both in English and Portuguese for school promotion through all mediums including emails, newspaper, social media and website on regular basis.

Event Management and other related tasks

  • Taking active part in all school events including open days, parental or school community events.

Required Attributes

  • Educated to degree level.
  • Excellent command of English and Portuguese – both written and oral.
  • A deep understanding of, and connection with, Mozambican culture, traditions, values and society.
    Good command on MS office.
  • To be able to navigate through internet (social media and other web based platforms) to a greater extend.
  • Demonstrative experience of community development work, family liaison or parental communication/liaison in a school.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the capacity to interact well and communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and stakeholders within a diverse and pluralistic society.
  • Proven ability to administer records and other sensitive information.
  • Ability to reach out to stakeholders outside the Academy and win them for the vision and mission of the school.
  • An ability to develop and demonstrate a deep understanding of how to put into practice the vision of His Highness the Aga Khan for the Academies.

Valued Additional Expertise

  • Previous experience in an NGO or development organisation.
  • Additional languages, e.g. French.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the wider African context.
  • Experience of school residential programmes.
