Project Description
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a German company which offers worldwide service in the area of international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ is primarily mandated by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), but it also provides services for other federal bodies, the governments of other countries, international clients, and private sector companies.
The bilateral project “Supporting Climate Policy and Energy Transition in Mozambique” aims to strengthen the capacities of the Ministry of Land and Environment for evidence-based climate policy. The project is implemented in three areas of climate dialogue/exchange, climate data evaluation, and nationally determined contributions (NDC) reporting.
The outputs aim to promote the participation of civil society, academia, economy, and policy makers in the national climate dialogue and facilitate the scientific discourse to set evidence-based and data-driven NDC targets.
Description of Tasks
- Support the implementation of the project on the topics of climate dialogue as well as in the conceptual design, planning, control and monitoring of project activities;
- Assistance in the preparation of contributions to network meetings and technical working groups;
- Support to the short-term, deadline and demand-oriented drafting of reports, thematic input as well as the creation of presentations and publications;
- Support in the design of studies, drafting of terms of references, and managing and supervision of consultants;
- Support the knowledge management of the project activities;
- Support in the planning, organization, implementation, and documentation of national/regional events, trainings and workshops;
- Participation in further core tasks of the project after consultation with the project manager (AV), which contribute to the coherent implementation of the project but at the same time to the own competence development.
Requirements
- Completed university degree (bachelor or master) in natural, environmental or economic sciences, communication sciences or another degree relevant to the tasks described;
- First work experience in international climate and energy policy, as well as expertise in cross-cutting issues (e.g., agriculture, forestry, climate change) in Southern Africa;
- First experience in the field of energy transition, including planning and implementing mitigation measures in the energy sector would be an asset;
- First experience in the planning and organisation of national/regional events, conferences, exchanges, workshops, and trainings;
- Distinct analytical and conceptual skills with the capability to present complex contexts in a simple and comprehensible manner;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders;
- Pro-active and goal-oriented work ethic, team spirit, ability to work in a team, good self-organisation, commitment to deadlines, gender competence, reliability, diplomatic skills, context sensitivity and networking skills;
- Business-fluent in Portuguese and English with excellent written and spoken communication.
Professional Experience
- Minimum one to two (1 – 2) years of experience in the area of climate adaptation, climate policy issues or energy transition in a public, private or third sector institution;
- Experience in working in an international environment and multinational team would be an asset;
- First experience in the design of studies, drafting of ToRs and the supervision of consultants.
- Excellent knowledge and relevant skills in the use of MS Software (Word, Outlook, Sharepoint, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously;
- Ability to understand complex thematic structures, as well as solution oriented and structured work approach;
- Ability to work result-oriented and self-initiated and not to lose the overview even under time pressure;
- Integrity and personal accountability in dealing with sensitive data.
