Objective of the position
He/she will be responsible for the financial supervision of project activities.
Responsibilities and Tasks
- He/she will collect financial data and keep the project manager and project director updated with financial overview.
- He/she conducts financial oversight of the scholarship programme, construction activities, support to scholarship holders and families through the support kits, and advocacy work. He/she continuously informs the Project Manager and the Project Director about the status of the finances.
- He/she will draft financial report for the donor and will be responsible for obtaining quotations and preparing the documentation for procurement procedures in line with principles of international law, guidelines relevant to the project and donor issues, and the Code of Ethics of the Community of Sant ’Egidio.
Main Tasks
The expert technical officer should:
- Monitor the accounting procedures and supervise the collection of financial and accounting documents.
- Draw up and submit regular reports according to the timeframe set out in the terms of reference.
- Coordinate with logistics departments for procurement activities (purchases, services, etc.) required for the implementation of activities and ensure adequate supplies in areas relevant to the project.
- Provide the project manager with regular financial overviews.
- Draft financial report for the donor.
Requirements of the position
- Preferably an academic/professional background in accounting.
- Excellent knowledge of Portuguese.
- Excellent knowledge of English.
- Technical capacity for financial monitoring.
- Previous experience in procurement procedures.
- Previous experience (at least 5 years) in financial reporting for project financed by institutional donors.
- At least 5 years working in a developing country preferably East Africa.
