The Aga Khan Academy Maputo is hiring a Visual Arts and Design Teacher (MYP & DP).
Context
The Aga Khan Academy Maputo is the third school in a global network of day and residential schools for exceptional students, offering a curriculum based on the highly regarded International Baccalaureate (IB) series of programmes. Purpose
To provide students with learning experiences that are engaging, relevant, challenging and significant through enabling enquiry, based on the beliefs and values of the IB within the context of the mission and ethos of the Aga Khan Academy Maputo. To ensure the students make progress as a result of their learning, to monitor this progress and plan interventions, as necessary to maximise each student’s achievements.
Main Responsibilities
- An ability to deliver lessons that relate to the course requirements of IB MYP Visual Arts and Graphic/Product Design and taking students through the DP Visual Arts and/or Design Technology cycle (or similar 16-18 qualifications).
- Actively engage with colleagues to self-review and evolve the effectiveness of the team.
- Lead by example in teaching and learning to maximise the impact on learners and their future opportunities.
- Use data systems effectively to track student performance and prompt early and suitable interventions.
- Be responsible for the pastoral care of the students including maintaining records of individual students.
- Plan and implement a variety of learning engagements that promote inquiry, creativity and critical thinking.
- Provide students with learning experiences that are individually differentiated to accommodate a range of abilities and learning styles.
- Contribute to the collaborative planning of the IB curriculum.
- Integrate the Aga Khan Strands into the teaching and learning programmes.
- Authentically assess, record, track and report on the progress of all students, using a range of monitoring and assessment strategies.
- Develop learning environments as inviting, nurturing and interactive spaces through the appropriate use, storage and care of displays, resources and students’ work.
- Communicate necessary programme information to all stakeholders, including parents.
- Display and model professionalism.
- Evidence of teaching resources to support a range of student learners.
- Rapport / relationships between students and between teacher and students is positive, respectful and conducive to learning.
- Work to stay current of professional best practice in the teaching and learning of Visual Arts and Design.
- Plan and attend fieldtrips or educational visits.
- Supervise at least one enrichment activity per term/semester.
- Participating actively in the Appraisal for Growth process as a member of the Academy’s professional learning community.
- Working to stay abreast of professional best practice in the teaching and learning of Arts subjects.

Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in an Education-related field.
- Professional Teaching Qualification.
Skills:
Experience and Technical Skills
- Master’s degree in Education.
- Understanding and experience of education and educational standards beyond Mozambique.
- Intercultural appreciation and sensitivity.
- Able to appreciate diverse cultural contexts and perspectives and use them to enrich the educational experiences of the students.
- Experience as an examiner/trainer/workshop leader.
- Previous IB teaching (MYP and/or DP).
- Ideally trained as a member of the IB Educator Network.
- Confident in the use of educational technology.
- Be skilled in using digital tools for teaching.
- Have a good knowledge of the core Adobe programs: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premier, etc.
- Familiar with the new Diploma Programme curricular changes.
- Excellent command of Portuguese and English – both written and oral.
- Knowledge and understanding of African cultures.
- Be familiar with laser cutting, 3D printing and vector sketching software.
